The highly decorative dream-like portraits tell an old story in a new way. The “hippie” era was
a countercultural movement that rejected the mores of mainstream American life. The Jesus Movement took on the cultural aesthetic in fashion, music, and art.
Hippies developed their distinctive lifestyle, favoring long hair and casual, often unconventional, dress, sometimes in “psychedelic” colors. The stylized portraits use the aesthetic of the Jesus Movement, adding a spiritual dimension to the clothing styles and ethos of the flower people.
Photographs of my sculpture work is used as a backdrop to create design, color, and light.
The “dream-like” mood of the pieces is created through a series of filters, altogether unique to the creation of the work. As a result, AI has become an experimental media, allowing me to aggregate algorithms to “learn” a specific aesthetic by analyzing thousands of images. The algorithm then tries to generate new images in adherence to its learned aesthetics.
Each piece is printed on aluminum sheets with a glossy finish and is ready to hang. We suggest a size of 20″ x 40″ for a large piece or 14″x 20″ for a medium size work. Other sizes, larger or smaller, are available.
The colors are vibrant, depicting the psychedelic influence on the culture. The fashion was exuberant as the drug experiments—limited editions. Using Rare-Earth minerals in my work allows me to create the palette of color used in my sculptures. Many describe the light as bioluminescent-like.
Inspiration for my color palette comes from the panoramic desert sunsets viewed from the studio. Pinks, blues, oranges, purples, yellow, greens, and white are created to be visible at night with the naked eye. “Following light in the desert wilderness is a theme deeply embedded in my consciousness, and follows the ethos of the desert”.
