Desert Spirituality

I am fascinated by the study of religions. Native American religion of the Southwest like the other indigenous religions observed nature for thoughts about the creator(s). Shamans and healers, speak about the meaning of engagements with the animal spirits. These holy men say that a hawk is often a messenger from Angels, Devas, and the Divine. I muse that the found objects embedded within my work are like a spiritual talisman, having the power to heal or to protect. I am certain that many before me had the same thought. Yes, most of my pieces have the healing soil of Mission Chimayo embedded in the piece. There is desert spirituality all throughout my work.
My journey to Taos, NM included visiting Mission Chimayo. The land feels “mystical” and “metaphysical”, much like Sedona.
It was a spiritual journey filled with thoughts about life, mortality, cycles of life and the beauty of a land touched by God.
Milagros in folk medicine  were used for “healing” purposes. Healing  takes place in the mind, body and soul. What we all yearn for… “Healing”. Oh Lord my God, I cried out to You, and you healed me. Surrender.
