Objects for an Ofrenda

In this piece, I saw the potential to create something that would encapsulate the essence of life’s abundance. This small piece is one of a one-of-a-kind work in the category of Objects for an Ofrenda.

First, I chose twelve okra pods representing the twelve apostles and carefully selected for their texture, symmetry, and grace. Second, I immersed them in resin, preserving the twelve pods. I cast a translucent base, layering it with the color and light of the desert. The Twelve Apostles is a one-of-a-kind piece.

What made the sculpture unique, though, was the rare earth elements added to the statue’s base. The elements seemed to spark a magical glow, an ethereal shimmer that made it look like the pods were drinking and flourishing in abundant water.

When the sculpture was finally revealed, it was a small piece with a big message 8″ x 8″ x 7″, a modest size for such an immense concept. It was a manifestation of life itself, reminding us that we, too, can thrive if we immerse ourselves in its endless flow.
