“Cease to Begin” is the compelling title for this series. The image captures a moment of both ending and inception, wrestling with nature’s cycles and celestial continuity. The imagery of a “Quiote”—the flowering stalk of an agave—emerges in spring under the first moon. The Quiote has medicinal properties and used in making certain type of Mezcal.
The background is an eternal star-filled sky, conveying a sense of renewal and infinite possibility. There is a juxtaposition between the agave’s terrestrial life cycle and the cosmos’ timeless expanse.
The Unseen
The curvilinear, biomorphic forms, evoke a connection to the natural world and its unseen energies. These forms, flowing and organic, suggest a fluidity and continuity that transcend the rigidity of physical existence. They appear to move and breathe, through the bioluminescent-like light. The surface stores light and re-emits a spectrum of light and color as if life imbued by invisible forces.
The palette of blue, violet, green, orange and white adds a mystical quality, enhancing the perception of a dimension that is not entirely of our physical realm. This choice of light not only plays with our perception—altering as it might with the change in light source or viewer’s angle—but also symbolizes the ephemeral and ethereal nature of fusion energy: Magnetic, electrostatic containment.
Images of the Invisible
My work is a medium through which we can contemplate the existence of a supportive and nurturing force behind the tangible world. The abstract forms don’t just represent biological entities but become symbols of life’s spiritual aspects—reminding us of the unseen that sustain and protect life.
Identifying what is invisible, encourages a deeper awareness and appreciation of the unseen forces at play in our daily lives. This abstract articulation challenges us to perceive beyond our eyes, and other senses.
